ABSTRACT: Special functions always had a central role in my research. Even though they are very classical objects, they haven't revealed all their secrets and new ways to apply them are constantly discovered. From the viewpoint of symbolic computation, they are interesting objects since there are many algorithms available that can solve non-trivial problems involving special functions automatically. Conversely, open problems in special functions have fueled the development of new algorithms and more efficient methods in computer algebra. In my talk, I will present results from my own research related to these topics and point out possible future directions.
